Roaming the streets of Northern India

Visited a place where they made the semi precious stone inlay. We couldn't get him to tell us the "family secret," but he did show us a flower...

and then gracefully pulled it apart.

Our tour guide also took us to a place where they made woodblock prints. It was pretty neat!

The green colored block is for the outline, the yellow colored block is to fill in the outline.

Our guides took us to many places, where skilled artisans would explain how they made their crafts. More often than not, it was followed by a high pressure sale, where they tried to get you to buy something. The explanation was always very insightful, but we quickly tired of the sales pitch afterwards.

Roaming the streets on our own.

We had our driver drop us off when we passed by street shops we thought we'd like to visit. Street shops were very different than the touristy shops we had been visiting. Here, we met locals that spoke English and were extremely nice. We had friendly conversations while stubbornly haggling the prices of our goods.

Some woodblock prints for sale.

Susan bought lots and lots of shoes! They are camel leather - very soft, flexible, and brightly colored.

I bought a scarf that I have come to love. I was experimenting with how to wear it around my face, when Amjith said I looked like a ninja. Hence this "I love ninjas" pose.

We bought lots and lots of goodies, but didn't have time to take pictures. :)

Camel Rides!

"Fellow Indians, I come in peace."

Flowers for Amjith.

When we were leaving to fly back to Chennai (south-eastern part of India), our take-off was delayed because there were monkeys on the runway!
